A recent question at the Sunland/Tujunga candidates forum pitted what moderator Ron Kaye and Jill Stewert referred to as the "Big 3 VS the Little 7." The Big 3 identified by the 7 other candidates were Essel, Galatzan, and Krekorian. All three with political ties and connections to special interest money. As was shown at the forum, there ain't nothin little about us seven.
Krekorian was questioned about his career politician carpetbagging status and how his recent reelection to the state assembly was a commitment he was bailing on. The same said of Galatzan, who at a cost of nearly $2 million dollars was elected to the LAUSD board and is also deserting that sinking ship before having even completed her first term. The lack of commitment and responsibility that these two show are not the kind of characteristics that I want in my local community leadership. Are either of them going to pay for special elections that could be needed if either of them win this position? If they truly believed in public service and were out for the better of the communities, they would stay where they are and do the jobs that many people elected them to do.
I believe that the community is way too smart to have the wool pulled over their eyes by career politicians only looking out for their own interests. It's ironic that when the question was asked at the forum, "which candidates would agree to a 50 percent cut in pay?" that the two elected officials are the only ones that said no. Very telling, indeed. It's time for the community to support the grassroots candidates and elect someone with actual roots in the community.
I believe that I am that candidate and I hope I have your support and vote on September 22nd. I look forward to seeing you at the next candidates forum in Laurel Hall. I would say that it's the "The Machine 3 VS The Mighty 7" and I would look for a David & Goliath ending.

CD2 Election
The campaign is heating up. We have 10 certified candidates that are all vying for the vacant seat of Wendy Greuel, our new city controller. From carpet baggers to community activists, from business people to gadflys....the field is as diverse as the district.
The community certainly has a choice on its hands. I, of course, believe that I am the best choice. Having deep roots in the community, the schools I went to right in the heart of the district, the family business I've run for over 20 years, I believe give me the experience and the know-how to represent the district. Quality of life issues is truly the foundation of my platform. Whether it's graffiti, abandoned sofas, traffic problems, over developing....all areas of the district from Studio City to Sunland-Tujunga are seeing their neighborhoods changing right in front of their very eyes. The economy has effected all of us in some way or another...whether it is the small business down the street that's had to lay off employees, or the elderly couple struggling to make it on a fixed income...it's now more than ever that we need somebody representing our community that will be a strong voice and advocate for the services that we should expect for the taxes that we pay.
The LAUSD is a huge disappointment and the board members outta be held accountable for their lack of action in seeing to it that our children have a first class education and top notch facilities to learn in. Our state Assembly members should be ashamed of themselves for slashing services and programs for the elderly and the ill, while granting millions of dollars in tax breaks to the film industry and taking funds away from cities across the state, causing lawsuits and angry constituents.
I look forward to the upcoming forums from Sunland-Tujunga, Studio City, Valley Village, Valley Glen, Sherman Oaks...where I will have a chance to meet the voters of CD2 and have a chance to give my ideas and plans for bringing the quality of life back to our community.
I'll be posting on this blog regularly and encourage comments, criticisms, and questions. Blog to you soon.
